If you are a refugee or asylum seeking doctor, the Lincolnshire Refugee Doctor Project (LRDP) can help you to pass OET and PLAB and gain GMC registration.

You can join LRDP at any stage of your journey to GMC registration, so if you have already successfully completed part of it, we can support with:

• Just PLAB 1 and 2
• Just PLAB 2
or
• If you need support with the GMC Registration

Recruitment of new members takes place throughout the year and if you would like more information on how LRDP might be able to help you and how to apply, then please send a copy of your up to date CV to carol.hornsey@lrdp.org.uk

Please make sure you include the following on your CV:

• Your immigration status.
• Where you are currently living in the UK.
• Details about your medical degree, internship and medical experience.
• Include if you have already attempted OET or PLAB.

What happens next?

Your CV will be assessed. If you meet the criteria, you will be invited to attend a video call to discuss your current circumstances and will have an opportunity to discuss how LRDP might be able to help you.

If you decide to apply to join LRDP you will need to:

• Complete an application form and provide the following documents

○ Medical degree certificate (translated)
○ Evidence of internship (translated)
○ Evidence of immigration status

• If you are needing support with OET, you will also have to complete an English language assessment.
• LRDP will share your medical certificates with the General Medical Council (GMC), this is to ensure, when you apply for registration, that your certificates are acceptable to the GMC for registration purposes.
• If your English language assessment and GMC check are successfully completed, then you will be invited to attend an online interview.

The LRDP Teaching Programme

The LRDP teaching programme is designed to support members from OET to GMC registration. Doctors may apply to join the programme at any stage ie, OET, PLAB 1 or PLAB 2.

LRDP also facilitates the application for a grant to cover the above exams and related expenses.

 

We offer:

• An online tutor-led OET course – Four modules + Four mock tests.

• 84% of our members have passed the OET exam by the end of this course.

But for those who don’t…

• Four further OET modules are then available with LRDP’s own OET tutor.

• 1-2-1 Sessions with Volunteer English Language Tutors; books; and access to self-paced general proficiency courses.

PLAB 1

• Free Plabable Subscription for 3, 6, 9 months.

• Weekly peer group sessions led by NHS doctors. Plab 1 questions are discussed and resolved as a team – a different topic each week.

PLAB 2

• An introductory Welcome to Plab 2 Course. Led by NHS doctors.

• Weekly OSCE sessions led by NHS doctors. Practising PLAB 2 cases, with feedback.

• A Skills Lab Day – at Lincoln County Hospital. A tutor-led session which provides the opportunity to practise using mannikins and SimMan.
